Kinloch is central to a huge array of activities and options for getting out and enjoying the central plateau / Taupo / Rotorua region and all it has to offer. We decided to create a shortlist of most popular activities of interest from previous guest experience. You'll likely discover why we often hear a common guest statement : "Four days is just not enough !"
1. Kinloch and Wairakei Golf -
Dunalistair House is located alongside the The Kinloch Club, a Top 100 ranked golf course (Golf Digest Top 100 outside US). It is worth noting as well that another top ranked course exists only 15 minutes away at Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary, so golfers take note - these two are essential in any New Zealand golf itinerary.
2. World Famous Taupo Fly Fishing
Some of the worlds great fly fishing rivers are located within an hours drive of Dunalistair House - we can put you in contact with one of the top professional fly fishing guides in the region who will collect you from the house and take you on a journey unlike any other!
3. Tongariro Crossing and Kinloch walks
With one of the world's top one day walks, The Tongariro Crossing at the other end of Lake Taupo, this is a must do if you are an active outdoors person. There is also an abundance of great walking trails in and around Kinloch which offer plenty diversity for walking enthusiasts.
4. Huka Falls and Huka Jet / Huka Falls Cruise
Huka Falls is one of New Zealand's premium attractions. Over 200,000 litres of water travel over the falls every second. Experience from the viewing platform or take a jet boat trip or gentle cruise to get more up close and personal to the mighty Waikato River !
5. White Water Rafting - Tongariro Rover Rafting
The Tongariro Rafting experience follows 13 kilometres and 27 "gentle rapids" of 3+ grade. One of the most beautiful rafts you could do, you will experience native bush, flora and fauna and even if you're lucky you will see Blue Duck - one of New Zealand's most rare and endangered duck species.
6. Hobbiton / Waitomo Caves
A great family day trip to see either of these most incredible experiences. Waitomo Caves gives a stunning insight to an underground world of sparkling light, stalagmites and stalactites, whereas Hobbiton is an experience in the life of the Shire as depicted in the Lord of The Rings and Hobbit trilogies. Enjoy a drink at The Green Dragon Inn at the end of what can only be described as a highly imaginative and authentic experience.
7. Kayaking / Ernest Kemp / Barberry - Lake Taupo
Lake Taupo is one of the most beautiful fresh water lakes in the world. Crystal clear waters offer incredible clarity and great for swimming in the summer months. Kayaking and boat rides are popular out to the Maori Rock Carvings - a must see while staying in the region.
8. K2K / W2K Kinloch Mountain Biking
The K2K and W2K tracks offer over 80 kilometres of stunningly beautiful gentle mountain biking trails have been opened in the Kinloch area over the past 5 years. This has elevated Kinloch to one of the premium biking regions in the whole of New Zealand.
